Andy shaves his hair for the British Heart Foundation!

On Friday 7th August, our Operations Manager of the Rail Team, Andy Ibrahimi shaved his entire head of hair off to raise money for the British Heart Foundation!

The UK's number one charity, the British Heart Foundation funds research, education, care and awareness campaigns aimed to help prevent disease.

Known for his slick back, Grease-like locks, Andy says  "According to the NHS website, Coronary Heart Disease alone is responsible for more than 73,000 deaths in the UK each year! Statistics like that make you realise that there's a really high chance it could affect not only somebody you know, but maybe even yourself. This is why it's so important to raise funding for research of such conditions as well as educating people of the risks that attribute to such illnesses!"

The British Heart foundation seek to investigate many different heart conditions including Coronary Heart Disease, and every penny helps toward finding treatment and cures and Andy managed to raise a whopping £550 for the charity!

Well done!!! (and lets hope it grows back soon!)

Lead by their instructor, Kevin; the whole team were dressed in their shooting gear, perfect for an afternoon of the highly competitive (and tricky!) game!

At the end of the day, Regional Manager Steve managed to take the top spot, with Kris Asson, the team's Construction (Housing) Consultant, coming in at a close 2nd!  3rd place was taken by Natalie Cotton, the Construction Trades and Labour Consultant - the best of the girls!!

Unfortunately David Browne couldn't make the event, so the team were sure to bring his lookalike Don Cheadle on a ruler so that he could still be part of the day!

Keep up the good work Birmingham!

FastTrack's Dress-Down Fundraisers!

Over the past few weeks, FastTrack have been raising money for various charities through dress-down days! First of all, our Watford Office held an Office Dress-Down in order to raise money for a local parent who ran the Brighton Marathon to raise money for the NSPCC!  Raising a £41.16 donation, the money will help to fund trained volunteers in primary schools in the UK, in delivering difficult information with the expertise and security that ChildLine has developed over the past 25years!

For the biennial Red Nose Day on 14th March, our Watford office had a dress down day raising £39.09 (plus a fantastic donation of £50 for the charity from James Barnham!).

Part of Comic Relief, the charity’s aim is to "bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people, which we believe requires investing in work that addresses people's immediate needs as well as tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice".
At the end of the 2015 Red Nose Day telethon it was announced that in the 30-year history of Comic Relief the Red Nose Day and Sport Relief appeals had raised in excess of £1bn (£1,047,083,706)! Fantastic!

For more information on the NSPCC, please visit their website at http://www.nspcc.org.uk/ and take a look at the Red Nose Day website at http://www.rednoseday.com/!  Don't forget to make your own donations for both causes...REMEMBER a little goes a long way!

It's a Knock Out!

Our FastTrack Birmingham Office have submitted a team for the Charity ‘It’s a Knock Out’ Event on Sunday 3rd May 2015! Our FastTrack Team will be raising money for Motor Neurone Disease in support of Tom Stevenson, a fellow consultant over at PSR who has sadly recently been diagnosed with the disease and it therefore raising both awareness & money for the cause!

'The Battle Fund' was set up by Tom when an overwhelming amount of support was shown to him following his diagnosis.  The fund will provide Tom access to Alternative treatments, of which are not currently available on the NHS. The fund will also help pay for costly travel arrangements for any treatment or therapy available outside of the UK etc. If deemed necessary the funds raised would also be used to improve the quality of life for Tom through his journey with his diagnosis.

The Battle Fund Charity Event

It provides emotional and financial support to Tom Stevenson and his wife Lian during their battle to defeat Tom's diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

This is Tom's story...
“Wednesday 9th October 2013 Tom was dealt a bad card in his life, he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease...

The initial shock was terrible but he thought about how he was going to fight this battle. There are two paths to go down, one is to sit back and hide away and deny it, not see anyone and let the stress and anxiety eat him up which is what the disease wants him to do, or the other path which is to accept it and put a plan in place to defeat it. The brain is a very powerful machine which can be fixed as long as you have the right mentality and support around you. At the moment there is no cure, but isn't that the same for many illnesses?  There are excellent treatments and with help from others STAYING POSITIVE and BELIEVING that we are going to get through this battle then that is the best treatment anyone can have. He is not looking to receive sympathy, he wants to see positive responses because he is a strong individual and will beat this but he will need the help from family and friends on this journey.

He looks at this like a game of blackjack - him against the dealer.  He has been dealt a bad hand a 10 and a 3, the dealer gives himself a King, Tom has two options.  Stick on 13 and accept the dealer will beat him or take a gamble and fight and defeat him and turnover an 8.
Tom has taken another card and turns over an 8 which gives me 21, the dealer still has a chance he turns over a 6, his final card needs to be a 5 but he turns a 10 which means he's bust and is defeated

Tom is not hiding away and wants people to channel positive thoughts and energy to him and that process will get him through his battle.”

FastTrack have managed to donate £250 to the cause and now it’s your turn to help! Please share ideas and interact with the rest of Tom's Army, create awareness of your fundraising ideas etc. Together we can beat the dealer!

To donate, please visit http://www.gofundme.com/6u68x4 or go to the Battle Fund website at www.thebattlefund.co.uk
